Community Action

Social isolation has been linked with serious social and emotional effects. Perhaps the most dangerous of these effects include the erosion of social capital for those who most need it, the loss of social and interpersonal skills particularly among youth, the crumbling of a reliable ground for public dialogue on issues critical to our city, and the associated impact on our ability to make important decisions together.

The Relational Center deepens and expands communities by teaching organizing strategies people can use to build a movement that reverses the effects of social isolation. We offer group-building activities, community action networks and public education initiatives. When bridged with wider community action in the framework of a broad social movement for sustainability, our work can effect profound social and political change.
